  3. However, there is a big myth that you have to borrow money and pay interest to get a good score. That is completely false! So long as you use your credit card (it can even be a small $1 charge) and then pay that statement balance in full, your score will benefit. You do not need to pay interest on a credit card to improve your score. Remember: your goal is to have as much positive information as possible, with very little negative information. That means you should be as focused on adding positive information to your credit report as you are at avoiding negative information.

I had 4 medical bills on my report. $65, $150,$750, $1600. The goal is to pay off as many as possible. Working from the smallest all the way up. And the one for $1600 they mailed to the wrong address so i disputed. Literally made 20 calls, talked to several managers, then reported the creditor and original debt holder to the BBB. Finally got it removed. Remember these guys buy debt for pennies on the dollar. Negotiate with them…usually you can get them to accept half the payment. Get it in writing first. Second go to your bank and talk to them. Get a pre paid credit card. You basically put money on the card up front then charge just groceries or gas. Keep it less than 20 percent. Also get a loan for debt improvement. In my case they loaned me a $1000 and kept it in my account i could not touch it. Then they withdrew the money from my automatic deposits from my paycheck. 6 months later i went from 597 to 696. If your problem is the same as mine…you just have to get off your behind and do it.
Credit age is a measure of how long you’ve maintained your credit accounts. Lenders prefer consumers who have a history of managing credit responsibly. With regards to credit scores and accounts, the older, the better. Additionally, leaving accounts open helps with credit utilization as they increase your available limit. Experian recommends that consumers leave accounts open, explaining that “the goal is to keep some revolving accounts, use them to demonstrate that you can manage credit, and keep your utilization ratio low.”

Having a lower debt-to-income ratio will positively improve your credit score. Luckily, you can achieve this in just 30 days. Simply time your shopping well. After paying off a credit card, wait for an entire billing cycle before using it again. Typically, credit card companies will report your credit score right before your bill is due. This means your account balance (a debt) gets reported, even though you will be paying it off shortly. If you wait a full 30 days after paying a card off, your credit card company will report a balance of $0 to the credit bureaus. This low balance translates to a lower debt-to-income ratio and raises your score.
